Gioteck PS3 EX-01 Bluetooth Headset FAQ: Instruction Manual

Now many of you have said on our previous PS3 EX-01 Bluetooth Headset post that you are having troubles connecting to the PS3 console, so below we have all the PS3 EX-01 Bluetooth Headset FAQ and things you should do. We hope everything is ok; the information below is direct from the Gioteck website.

“My headset won’t connect to my PS3!”
Firstly, make sure you read the manual/quick start guide that came with your headset. It has all you need to know about correctly configuring your headset.

“OK, I’ve read the manual/quick start guide but my headset still won’t connect.”
Try the following steps.
1. Make sure that you have charged your headset battery for at least 3 hours. The green LED will go out once the battery has fully charged.
2. Next place the headset in “Pairing Mode”. Hold down the on/off button for 9 seconds the LED will flash green/blue.
3. Next go to the PS3 Menu Register Bluetooth Device Option, within Accessory Settings, from the Main Settings Menu on your PS3. The device name to select after the registration scan takes place is PS3 EX-01. Once you have selected PS3 EX-01 and entered “0000” as the Pass Key you should receive a message “Register Completed”

“I’m not receiving the “Register Completed” message. I’m receiving a “Connection Could Not Be Established ( 80010009)” error message instead.”
This can happen first time around. Try once more repeating steps 2 & 3 above.

“I’m still getting the same message”

In that case make sure that you turn off the PS3 system into standby mode. The red LED in front of the PS3 will confirm standby mode. Then switch the main PS3 power off at the back of the unit using the on/off switch. Leave the power off for a few seconds then switch back on again and repeat the pairing process once more.

“No sorry, that still isn’t solving the problem.”

Please contact our support address support@gioteck.com and let them know that you have followed the instructions and you are receiving the Connection Could Not Be Established ( 80010009)” error message. They’ll assist and advise you what to do next.

“How do I ensure that I have configured my headset correctly?”
Once you have completed the headset registration, you can configure your headset in the “Audio Device Settings”, Sub Menu within “Accessory Settings” of the PS3. Select PS3 EX-01 for both “Input” and “Output” devices and then press OK and your ready to go.

“I’ve selected PS3 EX-01 for both “Input” and “Output” devices, but can’t hear any sound?”
You should be able to talk into the microphone and see the microphone level meter at the top of the Audio Device Settings menu move up and down. If it doesn’t, then exit the Audio Device Settings by pressing OK at the bottom of the screen then re-enter the menu by selecting Audio Device Settings once more. Try speaking into the microphone again.

“There is still no microphone activity shown on the meter or when I talk into the microphone.”
Set the microphone level on level 5 and shout!

“Still nothing!”
Please contact our support desk at support@gioteck.com

“My microphone is working fine but I’m still not hearing any sound. Any ideas?”
You may need to perform a PS3 “System Update”. Voice and sound tests for audio accessories such as the EX-01 have been provided by Sony from System Update Version v2.30. We highly recommend that unless you have a direct internet connection to the Sony Network from your PS3, that you do not attempt to manually perform a manual System Update using a USB device or SD Memory Card.

“OK, I’ve got the latest update, tested the EX-01 in Audio Device Settings and using the Voice Changer function, but still no sound, just crackle and background hiss. What now?”
Do you have access to a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone? This is probably the quickest and simplest test to check the speaker clarity on your headset. If you pair the headset to the phone and then get someone to call the phone you should hear incoming call music and voice without crackle, (press the on/off button once to accept the call). If you still hear crackle and no clear sound, contact our support desk at support@gioteck.com

“I’ve had my headset and remember hearing an audible bleep when I turned the headset On/Off or disconnected it. Now when I turn On/Off or disconnect I hear nothing.”

Please contact our support desk at support@gioteck.com

“I’ve managed to get sound by testing the headset using sound tests in Audio Device Settings and Voice Changer, but now I’m online, playing my game and now I can’t hear myself or others. Help!”
Once you’ve determined that the headset works offline, it should work online. There may be many or a combination of reasons why this could be happening. Type of game and internet bandwidth, are probably the most common causes. If you have access to the internet it may be an idea to go to the Sony PlayStation 3 forums, to see if other users are experiencing similar issues.
Here’s an example of the useful info and content which you can expect to find.

“I have restored my PS3 settings and now my headset won’t connect. What do I do?”
First check that your EX-01 profile still exists in settings.
To check this, go to “Settings/Accessory Settings/ Manage Bluetooth Devices”
You should see PS3 EX-01 listed. If you don’t you will need to re register the EX-01 with your PS3.

“I see PS3 EX-01 listed, but my headset still won’t connect. It did before I rest my PS3 settings. What’s happened?
You may need to delete the existing profile and re register the EX-01, sometimes stuff happens!
To do this, go to “Settings/Accessory Settings/ Manage Bluetooth Devices”
Press “Options” (Triangle on your controller).
Select “Delete”
Select “Yes” on the confirmation screen.
Once the profile is deleted, re register the EX-01 with your PS3.

“I seem to have pressed the headset on/off button, when I wanted to change volume and now my sound is being interrupted by an engaged tone every 5 seconds. What’s that all about?”
It’s quite easy to push the On/Off button when you are trying to change volume up and down. When you do this it puts the EX-01 into “mute”. To release the headset from mute and stop that annoying noise, just press the On/Off button once lightly and normal service will resume! Once you become more familiar with the EX-01 you’ll get the hang of where your paws have to go to change volume!

“Can I use my headset with my mobile phone or Bluetooth enabled PC?”
As long as your mobile phone has built in Bluetooth, then yes. If you want to use the EX-01 with a PC, it has to have an embedded Bluetooth solution on board or an external Bluetooth dongle fitted.
